Here is Example 14, Rondeau by Guillaume Dufay, a name I hope that is more familiar than some we have had before. ‘Je ne suis plus telx que soloye’. We are now into the beginning of the Renaissance and the change from modal thoughts on music through to a more modern way of writing and thinking. The poets and poems have moved further from the musical forms with many of them being unsuited to song forms. But here is a nice example by Dufay, the rhythmic complexity of Subtilior has calmed down to a more relaxed level. These 15 videos are the examples at the back of a book by Nigel Wilkins, called One Hundred Ballades, Rondeaux and Virelais recently read by me.
