Example 5 Guillaume de Machaut Ballade

We are now getting to the heart of Ars Nova with Guillaume de Machaut 1300 to 1377, who also has the most surviving works.  Bearing in mind that a single book could cost as much as building a house this cost him a fortune.  Fortunately he was also abbot of several Monasteries in France so had a work force to call upon.  He also shows the poet straying fully into composition with more than one part.
